Prof. Dr. Francisco Alonso, representing DS4M Mediterráneo (Universitat de València), participated last Friday in the XIII Workshop on Safe, Sustainable, and Smart Cities, a benchmark event organized by the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV).
Urban Technology: From Data to Decision-Making
Prof. Dr. Alonso contributed to Panel 3, titled “Urban technology with real impact: from data to decision-making.” The debate focused on how to transform massive information flows into efficient public policies, featuring a high-level panel of experts:
Moderator: Ernesto Faubel Cubells (Head of Smart City and Data Management Service, Valencia City Council).
Patricia Tamarit (Director of Innovation in Proprietary Products at NUNSYS).
David Olmos Rodríguez (Head of Procurement and Studies at Pavapark).
Antonio Sánchez (Founder and Professor at the Polytechnic University of Cartagena).
Data as the Core of Smart Mobility
During the session, it was emphasized that urban technology must serve as a tool to improve citizens’ quality of life. Prof. Dr. Alonso highlighted the importance of data governance and how data spaces—such as DS4M Mediterráneo—are essential for ensuring that the integration of sensors and traffic systems translates into smoother and safer mobility.
