The Data Spaces Reference Center (CRED) has highlighted the strategic role of DS4M Mediterráneo (Data Space for Mobility) as a fundamental initiative to solve current challenges in data access and sharing within urban mobility and public infrastructure management.

The Data Challenge in Low Emission Zones (LEZ)

As pointed out by CRED, if a municipality wants to measure the real impact of initiatives like Low Emission Zones, it needs to cross-reference multiple information sources simultaneously: traffic flows, air quality, public transport usage, or delivery fleet dynamics.

Having a realistic overview is crucial for proper decision-making, but currently, much of this data is not easily accessible or properly integrated for unified reference. This structural problem of data disconnection is efficiently solved by sectoral data spaces.

This is precisely where DS4M Mediterráneo comes into play, an initiative led by INTRAS in close collaboration with IRTIC (Universitat de València) and supported by ITS España. This consortium is successfully deploying this shared ecosystem across the Mediterranean Corridor.

A Model for Connected and Safe Mobility

In a recent digital feature published by CRED, Prof. Dr. Francisco Alonso, director of INTRAS (Research Institute on Traffic and Road Safety) at the University of Valencia, explains first-hand how data governance connects public and private entities to achieve more sustainable, connected, and safe mobility based on clear evidence.
